Pat McCool was born at Ft. Benning, Ga. As the son of an Army officer he spent his early years moving from post to post before settling in Hattiesburg, MS, where his father was stationed, to teach ROTC at the University of Southern Mississippi.
By the time he reached his early teen years, Pat had developed the habit of getting into trouble, which led to a life-changing moment at the age of 18 in a jail cell in Lamar County, MS, which he details in is book, Bonsai Wasn't Really That Big of a Hill: One Man's Walk Toward God.
Following that moment, Pat would enter the business world where he would meet his wife of now thirty plus years and be blessed with three daughters and eight grandchildren. He became a successful executive with a Fortune 500 insurance company, where he would spend the next two decades, until he felt a different calling on his life. In early 2000 Pat made the decision to leave the business world and pursue a career as a stand up comedian.
A few weeks later, he made a three-hour trip from his home in Hattiesburg, MS to the Stardome in Birmingham, AL, where he performed at an open-mic night. The audience roared with laughter, and when he came off stage, Bruce Ayers, the owner of the club, invited him into his office. He told him he was naturally funny and had a future in comedy, if he was willing to work at it.
With Bruce's help Pat began performing as the opening act at clubs and one-night shows throughout the southeast. Though he had traded staying at the Ritz Carlton and 4 star hotels for motels with snakes slithering under the door and Pilot truck stop parking lots, he had found his calling. He quickly moved up to feature spots and within a year, after doing his first open-mic he landed his first show as a headliner.
Pat soon got the opportunity to perform at the Hollywood Improv in Los Angeles, where he would perform with some of the top names in comedy such as Jerry Seinfeld. While performing in LA, he met a comedy producer from New York, who booked him in several successful shows in the New York area. The growing demand for his act convinced him to do something he had an innate fear of doing - move to New York. His fear turned out to be real, because in his first week there, on his way to a show in upstate NY, he got caught in a blizzard, buried by a snow plow, and spent eight hours stuck on the side of the highway fearing for his life. After thawing out from his near-death experience he began performing at the top comedy clubs, casinos, and theaters throughout the country.
In addition to stand up comedy, Pat has made several TV and commercial appearances. He also created and wrote the situation comedy Mcfool, that was inspired by his book and true life story.
Following the release of his book, Pat moved back to his hometown in Mississippi. He now travels the country performing his G-rated, family-friendly comedy show, as well as his faith based show where he interjects the message of his book.
